Happy Photographic Accidents

Last week, I went to see DC based rock band, U.S. Royalty.  I took my camera but really hadn't planned on doing any significant shooting.  I was there to enjoy myself, not be a blogger or photographer; of course I failed at not doing both...blog post coming soon on my music blog.  While sorting through photos I found a happy accident. This is what happens when you enjoy yourself while holding a camera. I know, it looks like a severely out of focus image and it is.  But, there's just something about the lights and the blur that I really like.  So, for me it's a happy accident.  I guess this one could also fit under my drummer photo curse heading too.  The image is of USR's drummer Luke Adams.  I've titled it, "Luke In Lights".

Newport Jazz Festival: Day 1

I took in the Newport Jazz Festival again this year.  Check out the slide show below to see what day one looked like.

Newport Festivals Foundation Family Concert

This year the Newport Festivals Foundation held a free family concert.  The Sleepy Man Banjo Boys were there to represent the folk side of things and Amy Cervini was there to represent the jazz side of things.  Check out the side show below to see what it looked like through my lens.

Concert Photography: John Michael Rouchell

John Michael Rouchell at Mercury Lounge, June 24, 2013

I haven't been spending a lot of time on my music photography or with my camera in general.  I've been lazy and uninspired.  I'll even admit that I go for the convenience of my mobile device when I do grab a quick capture since it's always with me.  But, neither my camera nor I had seen Mr. Rouchell in a good while and the show fit into my schedule so, I found myself camera in hand enjoying the music.  If you haven't had a chance to see John Michael Rouchell perform, I recommend you do...you'll have a helluva lot of fun.

A mobile device, a moving car and rain... not the best combination for photographic brilliance.

Mobile Device Photography: Rainy Mornings with Hipstamatic

I haven't been inspired lately so my camera and I are having a bit of a breather. Like any photographer, even when taking a breather you can never completely stop taking photos.  Mobile devices pretty much ensure that a breather means you may not be using your big bulky camera and lens but you will still be taking photos!

I've been spending a lot of time taking photos with my upgraded mobile device. I've titled these images "The iDevice Chronicles"

Jewelry Rewind: Mickey Lynn

Back in 2011, I attended a Southern Designer showcase.  One of the designers there was Atlanta based Mickey Lynn.  I left that day with a pair of round Agate druzy earrings which I love.  I wrote about that back then in a more official manner, here.  This time around, I write as simply a happy wearer.

Sometime in the latter half of 2012, a pair of earrings show up in my Facebook feed. I email my Mom with a note, "aren't these CUTE?!"  She responds back, "CUTE!!!"  We often share these types of exchanges.  Come Christmas, she hands me a package.  I pull out a box stamped "Mickey Lynn."  I probably, kinda, sorta squealed because I knew exactly what it was going to be.  Yep, the earrings.

The earrings in question, Druzy Wrapped in Gold Rings.  Aside from being incredibly cute, they are extremely comfortable and easy to wear.  Not only that, they make me smile every time I put them on.  Swing by the Mickey Lynn site and check out the new Spring Collection.
